Around MHS: Morris, Valadez named second team All-NBC

The Maumee boys golf team closed out its regular season with a fifth-place finish at least week’s Northern Buckeye Conference Championship at Green Hills Golf Course.

Antonio Valadez led the Panthers with a career-low round of 85. Zak Morris added an 88. Both Valadez and Morris were named second team All-NBC.

Jeremy Anderson-Wonnell, J.J. Peace and Mateo Valadez turned in 92s.

The Panthers were scheduled to compete in the Division I sectional tournament at Stone Ridge on Wednesday.

MHS girls tennis

Samantha Mavis and Kiersten Krout went 3-0 last week at singles as Maumee beat Springfield, 4-1, and Whitmer, 3-2, with a loss to Bryan, 3-2.

Laurel Patrick, Laci Winckowski and Lily Jones also picked up wins against the Blue Devils.

Mckayla Hayes and Winckowski had wins against the Panthers.

MHS cross country

Freshman Arriana Dugan placed 29th out of 201 runners at the Liberty Center Extravaganza last weekend. Dugan finished in 21 minutes, 3.69 seconds.

Penny Farley finished the race in 28:40.93.

The Maumee boys team finished 18th out of 24 teams at the LC Extravaganza. Gabe Dario led the team with a time of 18:13.20, good for 57th place out of 299 runners.

Aaron Powell finished in 19:07.71, Ian Whetstone came through in 19:49.49, and David Ybaraa finished in 20:35.66.

Carlos Ballez had a time of 21:28.12, and Desmond Fayerweather had a 22:50.34.
