The Maumee girls soccer team is closing in on some significant program milestones, and it all started with last week’s 10-0 win over Central Catholic.

The win moved the Panthers to 7-7-2 overall. With a win in Monday’s game against Bowling Green and another in Wednesday’s postseason opener against Sandusky, Maumee’s girls program would reach its 300th all-time victory.

Add to that a chance to win a third straight Division III district title, and the game against the winless Blue Streaks on Wednesday at Kazmaier Stadium is not going to be overlooked.

“I will continue to remind them that no game is guaranteed,” Panthers coach Jeremiah McNutt said. “Also, Sandusky may be a very big game in the program history. With a win Monday and another against Sandusky, the program will have its 300th win. I think that is a good enough reason to make sure we don't overlook anyone.”

Maumee certainly didn’t overlook the Irish last week. Gabbi Bischoff and JayCee Blue each had two goals, while Evelyn Boyett added one goal and two assists, and Shannon Tolbert had a goal and an assist.

Charley Bischoff, Zoey Kelly, Miriam Findling and Maleya Jones each had a goal. Ainsley Heckmen had three assists.

The win stopped a two-game losing streak, against Lake and Evergreen. Both of those schools are entering the postseason with double-digit wins.

“It's always a step in the right direction when the next game is a win,” McNutt said. “The team showed what kind of team they are with a great rebound after a disappointing game before.”
