It’s all been leading to this for the Maumee girls soccer team.

The postseason draw was released on Sunday, and the Panthers will open defense of the Division III district tournament on Wednesday, October 16, when they host Sandusky at 5 p.m.

As Maumee coach Jeremiah McNutt has said all season, his concern wasn’t wins or losses in the regular season but the lessons they taught his team for a postseason run.

“I was surprised to see them pick us, but we have never played them while I've been here,” McNutt said of the Blue Streaks. “Who knows what we will get. We need to think about our game. As long as we play the way we can, we should be good.

“I'm sure the Seniors don't want it to be their last game.”

Sandusky entered the tournament draw with no wins, being outscored 91-1 to this season.

Meanwhile, Maumee is 6-6-2 after last week’s 1-0 loss at Lake and has allowed only 17 goals this season. The Panthers are the two-time defending Division III district champion.

A win over the Blue Streaks would give Maumee a rematch with top-seeded Sandusky Perkins in the district semifinals on October 23 at Lake. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the season opening game.

“In the six years I've been here, Perkins has always been a great game,” McNutt said. “I'm expecting nothing short of another great game. Two teams that want to play in that district final. It should be fun.”

The district final is scheduled for October 26 at Lake. In addition to Perkins and Maumee, Bowling Green is the No. 2 seed and Springfield is third.
