Her senior season might be over, but the awards are just starting to roll in for Maumee’s Lucy Porter.

Last weekend, Porter brought home two big honors, being named the Northern Buckeye Conference Player of the Year as well as one of BCSN’s Top 10 girls basketball players in the area.

This is Porter’s second straight season on the All-NBC first team; she finished second in player of the year voting as a junior.

“I’ve had the goal of getting NBC player of the year since we switched leagues, and being able to receive it is a huge honor,” Porter said. “All of the late nights in the gym, training sessions and lifts have paid off and I couldn’t be happier to end my Maumee career receiving this honor.

“I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and my team, who push me past my limits every day in practice and games. I am so unbelievably proud of the girls who also received honors, there is so much hard work and dedication that has gone on behind the scenes that no one else sees besides us.”

Also appearing on the All-NBC list was junior Taylor Smith (second team) and sophomore Reign Hurt (honorable mention).

Porter saved her best season for her last, averaging 18.6 points, nine rebounds, 4.4 steals and 28 assists, all team bests. She shot 44 percent from the field, 37 percent from 3-point distance and 76 percent from the free throw line.

“Lucy deserves this award for so many different reasons. She is one of the hardest-working players I have ever been around. She won Player of the Year because of her performance during games but earned it during the off-season and every day during practice,” Maumee coach Rafael Soler said. “I am so proud of her and know she will be successful on and off the court.”

Porter was also named first team All-District 7, finishing runner-up in player of the year voting to Bowsher’s Kelaysia Harris.

Smith was second team All-District 7, and Hurt and senior Charley Bischoff were honorable mention.
