Panthers baseball ready to light up new home scoreboard

When looking at improvements or projects, Maumee athletic director Cam Coutcher has a pretty simple deciding factor — it is a want or a need.

For anyone who has been to a Panthers home baseball game recently, the poor state of the scoreboard was obviously a need.

That need has officially been solved. Maumee will debut their new scoreboard on April 1 when the Panthers host Start to open the season.

According to Coutcher, the new scoreboard was completely funded by money raised through scoreboard advertising.

“PowerAD made it easy on us. They are our advertising company, and they gave us some options for scoreboards and found us an installer,” Coutcher said.

“We were looking for a scoreboard that could fit on the existing mounting posts, which also allowed us to use the electricity. Then, it was important that our school colors and logos were on it. From there, I believe that simple is better and fitting within a budget is very important. It’s a standard inning by inning scoreboard that works with our existing mounting and electric, and it looks great.”

According to Panthers coach Todd Ery, the players were definitely excited to see the new scoreboard installed. Ery provided some input on the new scoreboard and everyone was in agreement on the final design.

“I'm not sure when the previous scoreboard was put in, but we were due for an upgrade,” Ery said. “Hopefully we can put those ‘Home’ bulbs to use often this spring.”

In addition to the new scoreboard, fundraising from the team also allowed the dugouts to be repainted and a new windscreen put up on the outfield fence.

“Next year we plan on installing new, more permanent backstop padding and upgrading the dugout fencing and railing,” Ery said. “If I happen to win the lottery then we'll break out some bigger plans.”
