Lucy Porter admitted she was disappointed when her name didn’t appear on the All-Ohio list after her junior season. Instead of sulking, though, she got down to work.
It paid off as Porter was named first team Division III All-Ohio on Tuesday.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and especially my teammates and coaches,” Porter said. “Last year I was discouraged that I didn’t get any state honors but I put my head down and went back to work. I knew it was going to be an important year and that I needed to make a statement, which I feel like I did. I’m so grateful to have been named first team All-Ohio on a list with the best players in the state.”
Porter is only the second girls basketball player at Maumee to be named first team All-Ohio, joining Erin Vick (1987).
Porter is the first All-Ohio selection for Maumee girls basketball since Reva Kerkulah in 2003.
Porter finished her senior season averaging nearly 19 points and nine rebounds per game. She led the Panthers to a 17-win season and a sectional title.
The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the seven districts of the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association, which vote on the all-district teams from regular-season accomplishments.
